What Gets Flagged at Lease Return
Your Dealer Is Looking for These.

Lease companies train inspectors to measure dents precisely. Most use published wear standards — knowing what crosses the threshold helps you decide what to fix.

What “allowable wear” actually means: Most lease agreements include an “allowable wear and tear” clause. In practice, it’s applied narrowly. Inspectors are trained to find and document damage, not excuse it. A dent that seems minor to you gets measured, photographed, and noted on the return report. The cleanest path is to address those dents with PDR before the inspection — so the panel reads as undamaged when the inspector evaluates it.

Dents Larger Than a Quarter

Most lease standards flag any dent larger than a 25-cent coin (roughly 1 inch diameter) or any dent that’s visible from arm’s length at normal viewing angle. These are the most commonly charged items.

Dings on Multiple Panels

Accumulated door dings across doors, fenders, and quarter panels each get noted separately on the return report. Inspectors work systematically — every qualifying dent is documented, which is how a “few dings” turn into a long line-item list at turn-in.

Dents Near Panel Edges

Damage near door edges, bumper corners, and fender seams gets flagged because it’s harder to access. Many of these are reachable with PDR if addressed before return — keeping the original paint and seam intact.

Visible Scratches & Paint Damage

Scratches that break the clear coat or primer are separate from dents — PDR doesn’t address paint. But if there’s an underlying dent, Joe can fix that first. Minor paint touch-up can be handled alongside the PDR work.

What the Inspector Sees
Lease Inspection Criteria — and How PDR Addresses Each.

Inspectors evaluate panels against a specific standard: original finish, original metal, no signs of repair. PDR is the only repair method that returns the panel to that condition.

The Process
How to Prepare for Lease Return.
01

Send Photos — Get a Quote

Text or email photos of every dent you can find. Walk the entire vehicle in sunlight or under a garage light held at a low angle — you’ll find things you’ve missed. Joe reviews them and responds with a quote, typically within minutes.

02

In-Person Inspection

Joe goes through the vehicle under LED lighting and identifies everything that’s likely to be flagged at lease return — including dents you may not have noticed. This gives you a clear picture before committing to any repair.

03

PDR Repair — Often Same Day

Most lease-prep jobs are completed same-day. Multiple dents across several panels may take a day. Joe gives you a realistic timeline so you can plan around your return appointment.

04

Return Your Vehicle Clean

The vehicle goes back to the dealer with factory paint intact, original metal, and no Carfax repair record. The panel reads as undamaged because the panel is undamaged — that’s what the inspector’s standard is built around.

Common Questions
Lease Return Dent Repair — FAQ
How much does Dent Evo charge for lease-return dent repair?
Most lease-return jobs run $250–$350 per dent depending on size, location, and access. Joe quotes from photos within minutes, so you know the exact price before you decide. The work returns the panel to factory finish — original paint, original metal, no Carfax record.
How do I know which dents will be charged at lease return?
Each lease company has a published wear standard. Most flag dents larger than a quarter, dents visible from arm’s length at a normal viewing angle, or any damage that requires professional repair. Joe can help you evaluate which dents exceed the threshold and are worth addressing before return.
When should I get dents fixed before my lease ends?
At least 1–2 weeks before your scheduled return or pre-inspection date. This gives time for repairs to be completed properly without rushing. Text photos as soon as you know your return date — Joe books up ahead of lease-return season.
Can PDR fix all the dents my dealer will flag?
Most lease-return dents — door dings, small parking lot impacts, minor surface dents — are ideal PDR candidates. The exceptions are dents with cracked paint, deep creases where the metal has folded, or very large impact areas. Joe will identify which dents are PDR-repairable and which aren’t during the inspection.
Does my lease company allow PDR before return?
Yes — all major lease companies (Toyota Financial, BMW Financial Services, Mercedes-Benz Financial, Honda Finance, Hyundai Motor Finance, etc.) allow and encourage repairs before return. They want vehicles back in good condition, and PDR is a recognized repair method.
